Historic village of Shirakawa-go, world heritage site in Gifu

 

Shirakawa-go is famous for the special house building called “gassho-zukuri.” The houses in this village have steep triangular roofs that look like “gassho,” which means joining palms together.

By train and bus

From Gifu to Takayama (another famous sight-seeing place): about 2 hours by express train; from Takayama, take a bus tour (with English speaking guide)
